Labradorite history

Labradorite was not discovered until 1770. Moravian missionaries discovered this iridescent mineral on Paul Island in Labrador, Canada (hence the name!). The missionaries then exported it to England and France to make bracelets, brooches, necklaces and pins which made this semi-precious rock popular.

Labradorite was called "fire stone" by the native people of Canada. Ancient legends carried by the native peoples of Canada told that the stone was created from fire trapped in the ice resulting from the aurora borealis, and it was believed that labradorite stones contained elements of the aurora borealis that were responsible for labradorite's radiant color.

Since 1770, additional deposits of labradorite have been discovered in Australia, Finland, Madagascar, Mexico, Norway, Russia and the United States where it continues to be mined to this day.

Blue, gray-green and pale green labradorite are just a few of the many hues contained in this rock. Other varieties, including rare specimens, offer a beautiful rainbow of green, purple or orange shimmer called spectrolite. Copper red, gold or champagne hues are also found.

Labradorite meaning

The labradorite crystal meaning is deeply rooted in the use of the stone as a "stone of magic". This iridescent mineral rock has been prized by diviners, healers and shamans throughout the ages. The vivid labradorescence revealed beneath the surface of gray or black labradorite represents deeper, hidden realms beneath the everyday world. These "visible" and "non-visible" elements define the root of labradorite.

The significance of labradorite is closely tied to its reputation as the principal protective stone of the mineral kingdom. Labradorite rock offers protection by creating a shield in the aura, similar to the labradorescence in the shield of labradorite's dull exterior. The natural energies in the aura are strengthened by the labradorite stone. The power of labradorite is particularly beneficial for exploring different levels of consciousness and enhancing visions, both future and prospective, in accordance with the meaning of labradorite.

Labradorite spiritual meaning

Labradorite works on the third eye chakra, the energy field that triggers spiritual expansion and higher levels of the mind. Intuition and intellect are counterbalanced by labradorite, illusions are dispelled and true intentions more easily identified with its use. If you wish to expand your mind and spiritual growth, meditate with labradorite to elevate your spirit to a deeper spiritual awareness.

Labradorite also helps you channel clairvoyant powers, or other psychic abilities useful in the practice of divinatory arts.

The protective powers of labradorite stone protect the aura by creating an energy barrier. This barrier holds personal energy and offers protection from people who would drain or tap into that personal energy.

Our advice:
Wear Labradorite earrings to enhance your clairvoyance.
Wear a labradorite pendant to strengthen the aura of protection against external negative energies.
Place a labradorite gemstone in your pocket to strengthen your connection to the Earth.
